THIS SESSION IS FOR AGES 12+, but please read:
This course is suitable for high school physical science credit. It is not recommended for those who do not have fairly solid math skills and are not able to read and write independently. Please seek input from the instructor with questions about whether this class would be a good fit for your child's needs and abilities.
Also, please note that this class is part #1 of four parts, running from September through October. THE SUPPLY FEE IS HIGH THIS TIME DUE TO COVERING THE PURCHASE OF A YEARLONG MATERIALS KIT. Future supply fees are estimated to be $20 or less.
This general physical science course uses a hands-on, project-based approach allowing students to explore the foundational principles of physical science! Using the text and lab activities, we'll have fun studying forces, machines, motion, energy, electricity, magnetism, sound, light, density and buoyancy. Students will also study general chemistry concepts including the structure of matter, the periodic table, chemical bonds and reactions, mixtures and compounds and the chemistry of food and living systems. In addition, students will learn the fundamental physics concepts of the earth and solar system, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. The students will gain a solid understanding of the scientific method and learn to write thorough and accurate lab write-ups. Throughout this course, students will discover the relationship between science and daily life!
Participants bring a sack lunch and drink.
